Society of Descendants of Scotland
A Lineage Group of The Augustan Society
The Society of Descendants of Scotland (SDS) is a lineage group within The Augustan Society for individuals who can demonstrate documented descent from Scotland. It exists to recognize proven Scottish ancestry, encourage rigorous genealogical research, and foster a community united by shared heritage and historical interest.
SDS brings together members whose families were shaped by Scotland’s distinctive legal, cultural, and dynastic traditions—and who wish to honor that legacy through careful documentation and enduring fellowship.

Scholarship and Publication
Historically, The Scottish-American Genealogist served as the official publication of the Society of Descendants of Scotland, with SDS funds supporting both its publication and related genealogical research.
Today, The Augustan Omnibus fulfills that role, providing a scholarly forum for historical, genealogical, and heraldic research aligned with the Society’s mission.
Historical Clarification
The original name of this lineage group was the Order of Descendants of Scotland.
It was not, and is not, an order of chivalry. No claim or implication of chivalric status should be made or inferred.
