Queen Berenike worship of Bastet

Recent excavations of the temple of Queen Berenike, wife of Ptolemy III, revealed a great deal of statuary, including a somewhat surprising number of representations of the Egyptian cat goddess Bastet. This suggests that the Ptolemaics followed the Roman habit of adopting the local gods rather than replacing them with their own.
