Haitian Book and Aid
01/18/2010
Those who have learned of the death and devastation of Haiti as a result of the earthquake of 12 January can only weep for a nation too poor in funds and resources to rescue itself without massive aid. Many of us have likely made contributions to the relief effort, or might wish to. Now, in addition to the traditional organizations like the Red Cross, comes a way to use heraldry as a tool for foreign aid.
The Armorial of Haiti edited by Clive Cheesman, Rouge Dragon Pursuivant, has recently been published by the College of Arms. In recognition of the need, all future proceeds from the sale of this work will be donated to assist those afflicted.
The book itself is a compilation of the arms granted by King Henri of Haiti (1767-1820) to his family and various nobles. We have a copy in our Library collection and commend it to students of Caribbean heraldry.
Details and ordering information are online at college-of-arms.gov.uk/Haiti.htm.
