The Society of Descendants of the Latin Kingdom of JerusalemApplicants must be a member of the Society and meet one of the following qualifications:
|
This Society was founded in 1967 to further interest in, and show the contributions of, the Latin (Christian) Kingdom of Jerusalem as it existed during the period of the Great Crusades. It was believed by those founding this Society that sufficient information was being distributed in the daily press, on television, radio, etc. for the Jewish and Arab positions in the Holy Land.
It was further believed that the Latin (Christian) contributions were being over-shadowed by the incessant warfare of the present contenders for this historical area of the Near East, and that by the presentation of articles, the furtherance of research, and the publication of materials concerning the Latin (Christian) Kingdom of Jerusalem, a new point of view may be obtained.
The original founders of this Society were unable to continue the important work they had undertaken. Therefore, the Founder of the Augustan Society agreed to head this Society until it could be firmly established.
Membership in the Society is open to Members of The Augustan Society, and may be effected by meeting the following qualifications for class of member:
- Outremer Member: Those individuals who can prove descent from an ancestor who resided in the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. These members submit their lineage from the ancestor, and pay a registration fee (this fee includes: certificate, insignia, and a genealogist's fee). Because Outremer membership is based on descent it is important that the genealogical proofs submitted be as authoritative and clear in presentation as possible. You may submit more than one line of descent; however, for each additional line an additional genealogist's fee must be paid. Lineage charts are available on request.
- Crusader Member: These individuals must belong to an Order of Chivalry which fought in the Holy Land, and they pay a passage or shield fee. Applicants must submit documentation attesting to membership in one of the Orders of Chivalry which fought in the Holy Land during the Crusades (Hospitallers, Order of the Temple, Order of St. Lazarus, Teutonic Order, etc.). Payment includes insignia, certificate, and registration of membership.
- Pilgrim member: Individuals applying in this class are to submit documentation showing proof of pilgrimage to the Holy Land. They pay a registration fee, which includes certificate of membership and the insignia.
All members, in whichever category, receive the certificate of membership and the insignia of the Society. Members may belong to more than one class.
The insignia of the Society: Arms of the Kingdom of Jerusalem; the shield is surmounted by a coronet Or. The insignia of the Society is a breast badge, with the arms of the Society in silver and gold. A smaller size of the badge is issued for wear as a lapel pin.
Application fees are presently $100 for registration, plus a $25 genealogist's fee for each descent submitted.
